status update

just a quick update as I know many of you check the blog regularly to know what is happening with our fabulous mother. Yesterday was a defining day as Mom (and family) decided that she was not going to undergo surgery as the cons outweighed the pros on this difficult decision. Mom had her stomach and abdomen drained again so she could feel more comfortable. The doctors and nurses are doing a great job in pain management. Until yesterday she had IVs in but she has been pulling them out in a medicated stupor and now Dad is faced with the decision to leave them out of try to somehow keep them in. Her surgeon has indicated that her liver is not doing very well and has begun to fail her. She remains upbeat and chipper despite her current circumstances and still worries about everyone and continues to assume her role as "mother hen". She is lovely and strong and a blessing to us all. We appreciate all the prayers and well wishes that many of you have offered on our family's behalf. Many thanks.

  1. It was a difficult decision but I'm sure it was a wise one. It's a relief to know that there is good pain management for your mom. She continues to be the example that I aspire to. I never cease to learn from her. Thank you for keeping us all informed in this time that is so challenging for you. Love to all of you.

  6. Once upon a time there was a beautiful, intelligent, fun-loving, wise couple and their two pretty little daughters. Our family was blessed enough to welcome them into our home on many occasions, but on one in particular, I feared with my 12-year-old heart that we might never see them again. It was the night when, during a family prayer after a particularly lovely visit, my father asked Heavenly Father to bless the Fat Hamily.... and we all lost it. Fortunately, the Hatts have always had a terrific sense of humour and somehow forgave us.
Sister Hatt always knows what to say and how to say it. For me, she has always been the picture of poise and femininity and is now inspiring so many with her love of the 'virtuous and lovely' and determination to meet every challenge with serenity and faith. Reading about how she is facing this most difficult challenge inspires me to be more faithful and feminine and patient and loving. Thank you for posting these updates, girls. Our prayers and thoughts are with you all. Please give your mum a big hug and kiss for me.
